Speech of HH Sri Datta Vijayananda Teertha Swamiji – February 21, 2016 – Mysore
Compiled by Smt. Hira Duvvuri
It is Sri Swamiji's resolve that all ashram residents must speak conversational Sanskrit. Sanskrit is the language of the gods, Devabhaasha. It is the source even for languages like Latin and Greek which have words common with Sankrit. e.g. Mata, Pita, Duhita, etc. Many words derived from Sanskrit are present in most of the languages we are familiar with, such as Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, English, Hindi, and so on. It is easy to converse in. Recently when Samskruta Bharati held their convention in Mysuru Ashrama, it felt wonderful to hear the divine language being spoken by thousands of delegates. Beginning today, in the presence of Sadguru Sri Swamiji, for three months, conversational Sanskrit lessons will be offered by Sri Rani Subbaiah Deekshitulu during the bhajan sessions in the Universal Prayer Hall. Everyone must participate and learn to speak the Sanskrit language. One does not need to become a scholar in the language to be able to speak ordinary every day sentences.
