Chaturmasyam 2013
The Puranas proclaim that Maha Vishnu, the protector of the Universe, remains in Yoga Nidra (Yogic restful state) from the full moon day of the month of Ashadha till the full moon day of the month of Kartika. These four months experience heavy rains fall all over Inida en new plants, insects, animals, birds, and other living beings are born in abundance. Hence, our Puranas declare this as the reign of Brahma.
Brahma causes the birth of living creatures for the purpose of their attainment of liberation by gaining spiritual wisdom. Our sacred scriptures have ordained that ascetis, who occupy a prominent place in society as Gurus, should give a pause in their travels and stay in a chosen place during this period, where devotees can approach them and benefit from their philosophical and spiritual knowledge to shape themselves into noble souls. That is why the ancient texts have prescribed the undertaking of the Chaturmasya (the four month austerity). To reduce the burdon on househoulders, a provision has been made that the duration of the Chaturmasya could be reduced to four fortnights (Pakshas).
The scriptures declare that not just the town where an ascetic resides and observes the Chaturmasya, but the surrounding areas too will flourish with wealth, health, prosperity, virtuous conduct and peace.
The devotees are aware that in January 2005, HH Sri Datta Vijayananada Teertha Swamiji had given discourse in Eluru on Datta Stavam, composed by Sri Vasudevananda Saraswati Swami. It is a miracle that Sri Vasudevananda Saraswati Swami had given Darshan under the Audumbara tree which had sprouted on its own, to HH Sri Datta Vijayananda Teertha Swamiji during that event.
When Sri Swamiji shared this experience with the devotees, their joy knew no bounds. Since then, during meditation, HH Sri Datta Vijayananda Teertha Swamiji had the vision of Sri Vasudevananda Saraswati Swami several times observing austerities at the Ashrama in Eluru. Sri Vasudevananda Saraswati Swami had indicated to Sri Swamiji on such occasion that He too should perform this Vrata Deeksha once in Eluru.
An inseparable bond exists between Eluru, Sri Vasudevananda Saraswati Swami, Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji and Sri Datta Vijayananda Teertha Swamiji, It is our great fortune that the devotees of Eluru are so highly blessed. We should forever remain grateful to these venerable souls.
Dear devotees! Sri Sri Datta Vijayananda Teertha Swamiji has graciously agreed to observe His 10th Chaturmasya Vrata Deeksha in the historical town of Eluru. The Chaturmasya Vrata Deeksha will take place from Ashada Shuddha Purnima, Monday, July 22, 2013 till Bhadrapada Shuddha Purnima, Thursday, September 19, 2013.
