Sri Swamiji has spoken over the telephone. He will be boarding the ship shortly and will be sailing to the Antarctica. We must all do the Hanuman mantra japa to our maximum possible count, praying for his good health, safe and successful journey and a safe return. Swamiji was very happy to hear about the Rigveda Maha Yaga that is in progress at the Mysore Ashrama.
Bhajan - Namami vedamataram - A very important and powerful Bhajan with rich inner meaning. Veda mata- feminine and Veda Purusha - masculine, both are guru - as an emperor and as a mother. We need both forms. Upanishads as mother and as Yajna Purusha as king. Command comes from the king. Compulsory to follow. Mother lovingly persuades.
Rigveda Havana is taking place. Boys who began their Veda education here, who are at different levels of proficiency, and their instructor are conducting the ritual. Veda is required for everyone regardless of caste, creed, or religion. Rishis were enlightened by Mother Veda. Those who worship her obtain eternal bliss. Mother Veda as Gayatri is extolled in this bhajan. Another name for her is Savitri. She gives energy. We must worship the Sun God and we must perform Surya Namaskaram. It helps the entire humanity, not just Hindus. The Sun stimulates our intellect and teaches about Dharma and Adharma. We must see the Sun and offer him worship and our prostrations, if it remains dark and cloudy for several days we become depressed. Our judgment gets affected. If one remains without seeing the Sun for many days, it is bad for health. Vitamin D deficiency occurs. The Sun is not an inert globe. He is living and conscious. His radiance is full of life energy and intelligence. The Sun causes our birth and maintains our life. We must worship the Sun to transcend the cycle of birth and death. We must make effort to rise higher into superior planes of existence. The Sun will help us to achieve it if he is worshiped. Long life is a boon. The science of Ayurveda teaches how to live a long and healthy life. Some great souls who incarnate for a divine purpose complete their mission quickly and give up their bodies, like Adi Shankara, Swami Viveknanda, and Sri Jayalakshmi Mata. But for ordinary human beings being short lived is considered as a flaw, and a long life is regarded as a blessing. Our souls rise towards the Sun as water and descend to the earth as his rays. Unless we go beyond the Sun's sphere, we are stuck in this plane of existence, circling around the Sun like the moon. Yudhishthira in the Mahabharata expressed surprise as to why the normal human being does not aspire to rise higher and get liberated. It requires disciplined effort and determination and the help of Sun God to transcend. Savitr is the conscious life energy that energizes the Sun and resides at its core. In Sri Lalita Sahasranama Mother Goddess is referred to as: Bhanumandala madhyasthaa. She is at the core or heart of the Sun's orb. It refers to the Sun not as a physical inert globe but as a divine, supremely energetic living force full of consciousness. Gayatri is the power of the Sun. She grants chitsukha- eternal conscious bliss.
In the New Year let us worship Lord Hanuman daily with the services listed in the Bhajan - Vada male. The list includes: garland of vadas, betel leaves, butter decoration, milk ablution, parijata flower worship, and the offering of Poornaphala.
