Speech of HH Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji after Chandi Homa – October 5, 2011 – Mysore

Jaya Guru Datta

“When Purnahuti is offered to the Fire God, all your bad vibrations you must offer to be completely burnt away. You do not want them back. You accrue five types of terrible sin through: blaming your mother, blaming your father, blaming yourself, blaming the Guru, and blaming God. Whether you have done the blaming, or you have heard others indulge in such blaming, you have accumulated the sin. You must pray to the Fire God to destroy that great sin.

Blaming yourself, getting depressed, dejected, feeling like ending your life, not wishing to live – all these are sins. Life is very precious. It is given by God for a good purpose. You must realize who you are. You are the Atman, which is pure and blemish free. You are not the faulty intellect. You must constantly remind yourself of who you truly are. Then you will not blame yourself. If you forget, that means you forget your Guru’s teachings.

Your intellect builds your ego. You must control your ego. You must kill it. There is no need for you to chase after it and to protect it. It will do it very successfully on its own. It comes chasing after you. Your ego gives you false importance and makes you angry. You get angry at your spouse and your children. What right do you have? You eat to your stomach’s capacity and then you burst out in anger. At least in anger if you give up eating food, then may be it is useful. But you don’t do that. You do not sacrifice or deprive yourself of anything. You must give up such anger and such ego.

There are millions of people, billions of them all across the globe. There are millions right here aroundMysore. How many people come here for this auspicious and powerful occasion? Very few. It is their karma that prevents them from coming here. They have to first expend their huge store of karma and reduce their bloated ego.

Why have you all come here? Not because of your effort or intention. You are here because I have attracted you here like a magnet. I am a very powerful magnet. You are not magnets. You are only iron filings. Because I attracted, you came. If you keep closely associated with me, then you will also slowly acquire some features of a magnet. You will not fully become magnets. They say that if your rub pieces of iron against a magnet, the pieces also become magnets. Do not start rubbing against my body. It will not help you. It will not even relieve your itching. You have to continue your sadhana. You must continue to serve. Only that will help you.

If some Gurus tell you that once you do this Homa, all your sins get destroyed once and for all, then such gurus are cheaters. It does not happen that way. You have to keep burning your sins all through your lives, till death. Perhaps in future lifetimes also. With each such homa, your accumulation of sins reduces. By performing each sadhana, it becomes less and less. You must maintain that pace of reduction of sins. By your next birth, the balance of sin may be much less, and may continue to decrease lifetime after lifetime. If after some time of doing sadhana and service, if you get fed up, you give it up, and fall back into your old ways, you will begin to accumulate new sins again.

You must keep chanting your mantras diligently. You must continue to pray, to worship. You must continue your close relationship with your Guru. You must continue to serve constantly, without giving a break. If you get fed up and stop, then that is danger. It is not good for you. If you stop your sadhana or reduce it, then you will deplete your energy balance, your electricity.

The Guru is always there. He takes different forms. He is there through eternity. Joy and sorrow do not touch him. The guru is like a signpost, or a compass. He shows you the way. He gives you the right direction. You must follow. He does not take the responsibility for your karmas. He is only a helper. When you are helpless, he is your helper. He is here to help you. Even if you surrender, you still need to do your part. You still need to put in effort.

There is a fly that comes here every Navaratri and stays with Swamiji all the nine days. Whatever actions I may be doing, it remains with me during the entire puja. Just now I left it at the puja altar. I told it to wait because I have to offer Purnahuti. It will wait there for me. It does not leave. Some devout soul from some past lifetime has come in that form. You should be like that fly, that insect. It is so dedicated and steady. Again and again you must burn your karma. There is no question of getting fed up and giving it up, until death.”
