Chaturmasyam 2006
HH Sri Sri Datta Vijayananda Teertha Swamiji observed His 3rd Chaturmasa Deeksha Vrata at Vijayawada City from July 11 to Sep 7 in the year 2006. Discourse on the second and third chapters of Bhagavad Geeta was held in the morning and discourse on Lalita Sahasranama was held in the evening. Both discourses are translated to English by Parimala Eshwarla and are made available here to the devotees around the world. 2nd and 3rd chapters of Bhagavad Geeta Pujya Swamiji has explained these chapters based on the 'Bhagavad Geeta Bhasyam'- Sanskrit commentary on Bhagavad Geeta by Adi Shankara Bhagavadpadacharya. Needless to say, Shankara Bhagavadpadacharya's view about Bhagavad Geeta and His explanation of the same is totally Superb and convincing! The way chapters 2 &3 are woven together is simply amazing! Bhagavad Geeta is placed before us in a manner wherein we can put at least a little of this knowledge into immediate practice. The connection between one verse and the next and what Krishna is trying to teach us becomes clear to laymen like us. Bala Swamiji, while explaining, read out from the Bhasyam and explained the meaning of the Sanskrit verses. In addition, in His own unique style went in depth and clarified for the benefit of beginners like us readers. The sheer combination of the subject, Shankara Bhagavad padacharya's bhasyam and our own Sadguru's style of explanation in His powerful voice makes this totally captivating. The explanation of the verses from the Bhasyam as given by Swamiji are incorporated. Prior beginning explanation of chapter 2, Shankara padacharya gave a beautiful commentary about Bhagavad Geeta. Bala Swamiji said that without understanding this commentary properly, a person cannot understand the main text. Lalitha Sahasranama Lalita Sahasranama is a unique composition of 1000 names of the Divine Mother. It is the sacred scripture (shastra) which teaches the essence of the Supreme Mother, Her complete form, Her divine plays (leelas), Her greatness, Her power (shakti), Her mantras, the various methods and procedures of yoga, the essence of devotion, many valuable facts about Advaita (non-dualism) and much more. No one can claim authority for having composed it. The Divine Mother Herself, through the medium of the Vag Devatas, got it recited. Vag Devatas are the guardian deities of speech- the deities who inspire and give us the power to speak.
