Speech of HH Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji - Dallas, TX USA - November 23 morning, 2012
Jaya Guru Datta
There is a proverb, “Old is gold”. There was old version. Vanara Sena made a new version (Dallas Vanara Sena presented a 7 minute movie called Sachchidananda Parabrahma right before Sri Swamiji’s discourse). That’s for remembrance. Because 15 years, 20 years back, there was no good quality cameras to make movies. Today, HD quality, very clear. May be we lose after 120 or 200 years. But anyway, Vanara Sena is collecting again remembrance. Wonderful editing. Wonderful idea. Because, Vanaras, that’s why.
Normally, we think vanaras are spoiling everything. No. Monkeys. But vanara means following Anjaneya, Karya Siddhi Hanuman followers. So, Hanumanta, in Ramayana, in his story, Rama Himself says about Hanumanta, praising. There was a discussion once between Sri Rama, Lakshmana, Sage Vasishtha and many other rishis and scholars. Who in this entire world has “Sumadhura Bhasha” (pleasing language), who talks nicely? Then, they tested everyone. Sumadhura bhasha only Hanumanta had. He has very nice language, very smooth, soothing language, like musical language. His talking to Rama also in a musical language, his talking to Mother Goddess Sita in Ashoka Vana was also in a musical language. That is very difficult to maintain, this musical language. And second one, who has the correct speech, not only musical, but also correct speech. Who? Who has no mistakes in language, never hurts anyone and speaks without a fault? Again, the vote was for Hanumanta. So, Yashavanta (very famous), Jnanavanta (very knowledgeable), Buddhivanta (very intelligent), Balavavanta (very strong) and also Sundara. Sundara is beauty. Some people thinking, what is the beauty? He’s like a monkey. Of course. Monkey also has its looks, eyes. If you see people in Mexico or South Africa, their skin is very different, but their eyes are wonderful. People with darker skin have such beautiful eyes. The eyes are wonderful and have a lot of focus. They are like 2 diamonds. You should not see them as black people. Their hearts are beautiful. Meaning, they have a good heart. If people can be like this, imagine how Hanumanta would be. He’s vayu putra (son of Wind God). So, Hanuman is very beautiful, very beautiful and very dutiful. Duty also he’s doing. In his works, he’s very calculated, very quick, no discussion. So that expectation Swamiji has from Vanara Sena as well. Also, in the future, they will do good work for Ashrama. I am very happy with this presentation. Earlier, Prabhu also gave a presentation (on the scientific measurement of the music therapy). He presented the latest results from Arkansas. I went to a big institute there. Big institute, no doubt. That building may be about 2-3 acres. It’s a big building. I have not seen a mental hospital like that. I have not seen. You should all go see. It’s like a temple. How they built temple. Once you go, your upset mind will also clear. The building itself acts as the first level of treatment. Second, if you go inside, then if you see all the arrangements, of chairs, their drinking - their coffee, tea, juice, that arrangements also, you lose half your insanity. You’ll feel like there’s nothing left. Such architecture I’ve not seen. Very simple looks, very simple. But, it’s very clean and very nice. It’ll be nice to get one hospital or even one room like that in India. Everyone says the same about our healing room, it’s so beautiful. I wanted it to be nicer, but what to do. When we go to such a place itself, we should feel very calm.
This Hanuman temple is also very peaceful, shanti, shanti, shanti. Very clean, very nice, so many people experience. Their own expression, so many people experience in this temple. Once we enter, we find all our answers and our mind calms down. It is a simple place, just one simple hall, but some energy in this hall. Very powerful energy, very nice. You must experience that energy. You must experience. It has lots and lots of energy and power. Once you sit inside, you don’t want to move out of here. Tell me, did you not feel that way? Regardless of the noise or chaos in here, you want to sit here. We don’t feel like stepping out. Isn’t that true? We’ll adapt and adjust even though people may be stepping on one another or sitting on one another leaning like on a sofa, but no one minds and no one wants to leave. We just want a little space that we could fit in. So, there is so much energy here. That’s what Swamiji saw in Arkansas. That brain scanning equipment costs crores of rupees. It’s beyond imagination. It requires a lot of maintenance. The government is at least giving this, which is good. Some lady gifted that equipment to the hospital. That machine sounds like music…zzzzz…That place also has some good calm music.
For people that don’t have a good brain, the treatment itself is different there. We keep going through many troubles going to little places here for small things. They help a lot. They help the poor people a lot. I’m not asking you to go there, I’m just saying it’s nice. That’s how beautiful it is. So, the discussion that took place in Arkansas. They did a brain scan on one person before and after Sri Swamiji’s music. There is a devotee who is an important person in the hospital. She loves Appaji. She’s been to Mysore Ashrama many times. She offered herself as a subject for the test. Brain Scanning is very difficult. They don’t usually allow healthy people in the place. Regardless, she insisted on being the subject of the test in order to spread message about Sri Swamiji’s music. She was willing to be the first test subject. It is a big concept, it is not child’s play, you know it. She said to scan her brain to see how the music affected her after she listened to Sri Swamiji’s music. She offered to let the scanner be used on her so other people can benefit. Even her children consented. There was the issue that scanning might affect her brain in the future. She said, there will be no effect because Swamiji was there. Whatever effect there was now was enough, nothing will happen. Swamiji stayed in Arkansas for two days. I felt like staying longer. They are devout Christians. But, they love Swamiji. They are very devoted. They love Swamiji so much, both the husband and wife. They are bishops, priests in a church. But, they didn’t care about what someone else in the community said, they just want Swamiji. They were important in the community so the rest of the community couldn’t let go of them. So, they kept quiet. Swamiji’s music, that’s why.
They did a beautiful prayer that day. Even Hindus may not do it that well. Did they get transformed or did Swamiji’s music influence them is something you should think about. They don’t believe in conversions. If you are Hindu, be Hindu. Be faithful to the faith you are born in to. They have such good views. That’s why Swamiji went there. Because it is a hospital, we should help everyone, people of all faiths. Because we are doctors, we will help everyone. They began wearing saris like Kaliji does. There they are spreading Swamiji’s music and using it on patients. The patients are now clamoring for Swamiji’s music. That is true devotion. I will accept. We should not be afraid to spread the music. A lot of us are afraid. Why should you be? What’s wrong in it? The world knows this music. Give a presentation of this music at your gatherings – weddings, christening, housewarming ceremonies and other events. Take a CD and give it to them. Give them a card to download. Why are you shy? You fear that they will mistake you if you talk about Swamiji. Don’t ask them to give up everything and come. That will make them afraid. You should say it correctly. You shouldn’t be afraid.
You should be proud. I am a human being, I’m Hindu. Why should you be afraid of saying that? I don’t understand. You should be proud. Why don’t you say? You never say. You should say it sometimes, you should visit India sometimes, lend a helping hand to those in need sometimes, but make sure your help goes to the right places, where it’s needed, otherwise it could go in to the wrong hands. Give a little bit to everyone, no need to concentrate all in one place. Lot of people – friends, relatives, brothers are suffering. At least help your own family. You should at least help them. So many people in your family are suffering. I am not saying help out, because you are millionaires, but if Swamiji is saying you are millionaires, you may all become millionaires.
That’s why we should develop that nature to help. Datta devotees are always ready to sacrifice. They are ready to jump in to anything. They are full of love. Don’t think I’m praising you. I am not praising. It’s not enough what you are doing. You should do more. It should be permanent. Teach the kids. Teach them to sacrifice. Teach them to sacrifice to Tataji. That will then become a part of their nature. “You took one? Okay, give one to Tataji.” I don’t need, but you should teach them to give. “If you take one, you should give one to Tataji, Tataji is always watching, you know. Tataji is talking to us”. Even if you don’t have devotion, you should inculcate it in the children. You don’t do that. You just send them to tuitions. You will know in the future how that will end up. They will have no regard for the parents. You should train them well from childhood. Have them listen to bhajans before they sleep. Tell them “you should listen to bhajans, at least for 2 minutes before you go to bed”. “I will give you this toy if you listen to bhajan”. “I will buy you this toy if you listen to the bhajan”. Only if you train them like that will they fall in to track. Otherwise, they won’t. Use it as a bribe consistently with children. You should do it to elders as well. Indubala does that at home. She demands that they listen to Sri Swamiji’s music at home. That’s how we should do. We are afraid that kids will complain to the police. Let them. We should correct them and control them affectionately. Not with fear. If you use fear, they will use that back on you. Just as you are my kids, you have accountability for your kids. You can’t be disappointed that your kids didn’t listen. They don’t have to listen to everything. Give them some freedom.
See where I went…from healing music to kids. People that write novels go from one topic to another; they have no idea, just like those who give commentaries on the Upanishads. They go from one topic to a completely different topic. You will be confused about whether we’ll forget the main subject. You should not forget. You must maintain the link.
I am very happy today. You did all these programs well.
This afternoon there will be two Music Therapy sessions because yesterday many people did not get a chance.
