English translation of  Prime Minister Shri.Narendra Modi’s speech at Datta Peetham :

“Param Pujya Ganapathy Sachchidanand Swamiji, Sriman Datta Vijayananda Teertha Swamiji, Governor of Karnataka Sriman Vajubhai…

Guru Deva Datta!

This is the first time I am coming to Datta Peetham. However, I am connected to this tradition since many years.  Whoever spends time on the banks of river Narmada, those who get an opportunity to carry on Sadhana on the banks of Narmada, without (the blessings of) Gurudev Datt, the Sadhana neither begins nor does it culminate. Whether you go to Naareshwar or Murudeshwar, it is with the divine grace of Datta that the entire area has been influenced. The entire Sadhana (on the banks) of Narmada, the Sadhaks of Narmada, those who undertake Parikrama of Narmada - they chant only two Mantras day in and day out…. “Narmade Hara!”, “Guru Dev Datt!”. These are the two Mantras that form the integral part of the entire Sadhana. I am happy that Guruji returned from Gujarat last week after visiting the Kutch desert to participate in the Rann Utsav. But the most important thing is that it is in that area the sacred place of Kalo Dungar is situated. During the Jayanti of Guru Dev Datt, a huge congregation takes place in that sacred pilgrimage centre. It is the last province of Hindustan after which there is the desert and on the other side of that desert, Pakistan. In that province is the holy place of Guru Dev Datt. Pujya Gurudev visited that area around Datta Jayanti, and He was expressing happiness (about it). Even I am very happy that I had the good fortune of visiting Datta Peetha today.

In this tradition, social works have indeed happened, but in our country whatever work is undertaken by saints, Rishis and Munis - are all directed towards social good. They are dedicated to the welfare of the society. However, it does not get recognised, because they feel that it is a part of their duty. They don’t go on advertising about it. Therefore there is a perception in the world that saints and pontiffs, Sadhus and Mahatmas are confined to their Mutts, engaged in worship and study of scriptures. But if we observe, we will realise that the entire tradition of Rishis and saints in our country revolves around bringing about social upliftment, social service.

The various facets of Pujya Swamiji - be it protection of the environment, or the effort to understand the Chetana of the birds, or the Upasana of Nada Brahma - are all testimony to this fact.

The Upasana of Nada Brahma is considered unique. Our tradition has embraced the powerful effect of Nada Brahma Upasana. Only few have the ability to undertake Nada Brahma Upasana. Through this it is possible to feel the form of Brahma. It is only Nada Brahma whose form can be felt and experienced. Through this Sadhana, Pujya Swamiji is engaged in the task of taking ordinary people towards Brahma through the medium of Nada. It is like moving from known to unknown. Laymen are familiar with songs and music. But to understand the spirituality behind it and to connect with Brahma through it is indeed a commendable task which Swamiji has been ceaselessly undertaking. Pujya Swamiji has used the entire world as His stage to perpetuate the great tradition of Nada Upasana by performing at various important places. Even I had the opportunity of visiting few such places. But is is today that I got the opportunity to visit the original place for the first time.  It is my good fortune and I offer my Pranams to Pujya Swamiji. I pray to Guru Datta so that the socially beneficial activities undertaken by Pujya Swamiji receive the blessings of Dattatreya so that His energy provides help and service to the poorest of the poor, and to the most ordinary person. With these wishes ….. Guru Dev Datt!
