Yugadi Celebrations, Khara Samvatsara, Hyderabad, 04 Apr 2011
The amazing annual event, Yugadi Festival, took place in Hyderabad's Dundigal Ashrama on 4th April 2011. Pujya Sri Swamiji arrived in Hyderabad from Malaysia on the night of 2nd April. Swagata Sabha (welcome function) was held in Ashrama's sprawling prayer hall. Sri Kalyandas welcomed Sri Swamiji and thanked Him for gracing Hyderabad for yet another Yugadi festival. Several new books were released.
The Yugadi festival started with Pujya Sri Swamiji taking Yugadi Pachchadi (a jelly mix of neem leaves, jaggery and tamarind) while the attendants chanted Shlokas. Sri Swamiji entered the new Guru Nilayam at 6.30 AM. Sri Swamiji performed Arati to the two Datta Padukas and ascended Yugadi Darshana seat. Then for the next 10 hours tens of thousands of people streamed past the Padukas having the sacred Maha Darshana of Pujya Sadgurudeva. Young and old, sick and healthy, scholar and layman, known, unknown, had the opportunity to start the first day of the year with this spiritual event. A person stood in queue for 3 hours before he could enter the Darshana hall. Sri Swamiji smilingly sat looking at everyone who came with the compassion that can only come from the graceful look of Sadgurudeva. Several TV channels took Sri Swamiji's new year message and broadcast them repeatedly. Annadana was performed to more than 65,000 people. In view of Sri Swamiji's camp here till Rama Navami festival (12th April), the doctor volunteers have planned a range of free medical camps.
In the evening, Sri Swamiji performed Sri Chakra Puja. Sri. Kuppa Krishna Murthy, Datta Peetha Vidyadhikari performed Panchanga Shravana (recitation of the important features of coming year as per lunar almanac).
Sri Swamiji sang this year's Yugadi Bhajan (Ravoi Ravoi Yugadi Raja) and the Shiva Bhajan Shiva Om Tatsat, Hara Om Tatsat. Dr. Yella Venkateshwara Rao, eminent Mridangist, accompanied Sri Swamiji on Bhajans.
2011 Yugadi was unforgettable.
